Campaign Verify Privacy Policy

Introduction

Campaign Verify, Inc. (“CV”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is a non-partisan, non-profit service for U.S. political campaigns, parties, and PACs to verify their identity. We operate the website located at https://www.campaignverify.org/  (the “Site”) and provide verification services for U.S. political campaigns, parties and PACs (collectively with the Site, the “Services”). This privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) explains what Personal Information CV may collect about you and how we may use and share that information. “Personal Information” means data relating to you from which you can be reasonably identified, such as your name, email address and telephone number. 

By accessing or using the Site or the Services or by otherwise providing Personal Information to CV (including through your registration), you consent to CV’s collection, use, and sharing of your Personal Information as described in this Privacy Policy. In addition, this Privacy Policy is to be read together with, and forms a part of, the CV Terms of Service.

  1. What Personal Information is Collected and How Do We Collect Personal Information?

We may collect the following Personal Information when you visit or use the Site or the Services.

A. Personal Information that You Provide to Us

CV collects Personal Information that is voluntarily provided by you. This may happen in a couple of ways.

  • Register on the Site. You provide us with Personal Information when you register on the Site to become verified. Such information may include, but not limited to, your name, organization affiliation, organization address, telephone number, and email address.
  • Contact Us.  You may provide us with Personal Information when you contact us directly with your inquiries or comments.

B. Information Automatically Collected by CV

If you visit the Site or use the Services, CV may automatically collect certain information regarding your computer or device, such as:

  • device type;
  • IP address;
  • browser type and version;
  • geographic data;
  • demographic data; and
  • the pages you visit on the Site. 

This information may be collected automatically through the use of cookies or log files. This automatic data is used for Site administration, statistical analysis, to monitor the use or performance of the Site, and to ensure that the content from the Site is presented in the most effective manner for our visitors.

  1. How Do We Use Personal Information?

We may use your Personal Information for the following purposes:

  • to administer and provide the Site and the Services;
  • to verify your identity and manage your account;
  • to contact you, including in relation to the Services and in response to your inquiries or comments;
  • for the specific purpose for which it was volunteered;
  • to manage our business, including performing accounting, auditing, and other internal functions;
  • to comply with applicable laws and regulatory requirements, or as requested by government or regulatory authorities;
  • in connection with pending litigation;
  • to detect security incidents, protect against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity, and prosecute those responsible for that activity;
  • to protect and defend the rights or property of CV;
  • in connection with a merger, divestiture, acquisition, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other sale or transfer of some or all of our assets, whether as a going concern or as part of bankruptcy, liquidation, or similar proceeding, in which Personal Information held by us is among the assets transferred;
  • to protect and defend the rights or property of CV or its users;
  • to improve the Site and the Services, including to debug, identify and repair errors in the Site and the Services and to help CV understand how users are using the Services; and
  • for tracking and analytics purposes described in the “Third Party Analytics Providers; Google Analytics” section below.

 

  1. How Do We Share Personal Information? 

We may share your Personal Information with the following third parties:

  • with our vendors and service providers who are providing services on our behalf;
  • with third parties (including texting service providers) that are authorized by your campaign organization; and
  • with third parties in connection with the uses described in Section 3 above, such as with government or regulatory authorities in order to comply with laws.

 

  1. Safeguarding your Information

While CV cares about the security of your Personal Information, you must remember that the Internet is a global communications vehicle open to threats, viruses, and intrusions from others. For this reason, CV cannot promise, and you should not expect, that we will be able to protect your Personal Information at all times and in all circumstances. CV cannot guarantee the security and privacy of transmissions via the Internet, and we will not be liable for any lack of security relating to the Site or the use of the Services by you. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, CV shall not be liable for any damages resulting from any loss of privacy or security occurring in connection with any such communications. 

  1. Third Party Analytics Providers; Google Analytics

A. Do Not Track Disclosure

Certain web browsers may provide an option by which you may ask your browser to inform websites you visit that you do not wish your activities to be tracked by cookies or other persistent identifiers, commonly called “Do Not Track Signals.” The Site does not respond to Do Not Track Signals.

B. Third Party Analytics Providers; Google Analytics

We work with third party analytics service providers, including but not limited to Google Analytics, to help us better understand how our users use the Site. As a result, these third parties may collect certain information from you about your online activities over time and across different websites when you use the Site. 

We use Google Analytics to learn more about the types of users that visit the Site and to help improve the Site. Google Analytics provides us with certain data regarding the demographics of the users that visit the Site and their activities on the Site. To provide this service, Google Analytics may collect certain information about you from your computer, including but not limited to: information regarding your visit (such as the pages you visit and the length of your visit), information about your device (such as your IP address), how you got to the website, and other information about you. We do not seek to, nor do we knowingly collect, information from children under the age of 16.

From time to time, we may update this Privacy Policy. If we do, we will note near the top of this page the date that any changes are made and/or when they become effective. Your continued use of the Site or the Services following the effective date of a change to this Privacy Policy signifies your acceptance of and agreement to the terms of the revised Privacy Policy. CV encourages you to regularly review this Privacy Policy so that you remain updated as to any changes.
